What game should a newcomer to the Zelda series play first? This has been a topic of many debates between Hick and myself over the years, and it’s not an easy question to answer! When it comes to recommending a starting point for a newcomer, do you go with your favorite Zelda game? The most accessible? The original? All of these are perfectly valid options. The guys over at YellowSuperNintendo have put together a video to tackle this very question. YellowSuperNintendo starts with a brief overview of the series before digging into each game in the series and recommending whether each game would be a good starting point for newcomers to the series. At the end of the day, they give a recommendation for both 2D and 3D games, and I have to say they did a great job summarizing the series as a whole.

Personally, I think newcomers should start with Link to the Past. To me, it’s the best mix of accessibility and challenge, and I think it’s important to get to know Zelda’s 2D roots before diving into the 3D games. Give YellowSuperNintendo’s video a watch below (or click here to view it on YouTube), then let us know in the comments what Zelda game YOU would recommend to newcomers!
