Well, here we are. Some time later and I have played Zelda: Breath of the Wild for plenty of time. I had high praise for this game in my initial thoughts of this newest Zelda title, but now that I have sunk plenty more time into it, I definitely notice some flaws.
By no means will I consider this game terrible, it had its shot at glory in the open world scene, but I am not sure this series was quite ready for a shot at the open world genre. Or was it perhaps Nintendo was not quite ready to bring this beloved game series into an open world setting? So much space, but is there enough content to fill the space that Hyrule has become? Are certain features missing or lacking? Do certain annoyances threaten the enjoyment of this game?
Youtuber ZeldaMaster breaks it down in the 5 things that sink the enjoyment of this game. I happen to agree with not just a few of these topics that are shared, but rather with all of them. Why did I go after the full set of climbing gear? Was it to climb faster? Sure…but was it also under the impression that a bonus feature would be added? I know what I wanted, a bonus to climb in the rain while wearing the full set of climbing gear. Other full sets of armor in the game have bonuses for wearing the complete set, so why was this seemingly skipped over? Zelda game bosses used to be a furiously interesting topic, but now it feels they have been reduced down to nothing more than lackluster clones that adhere to a strict characteristic. Every boss in other Zelda games did not always match the theme of the dungeon exactly, why did the Divine Beast bosses have to be dwindled in that way?
ZeldaMaster breaks down these topics and more in this video, which I enjoyed thoroughly, and I hope you do too! I love The Legend of Zelda, but Breath of the Wild was overly ambitious with the design of the open world. I think there are definitely some ways that this game could improve, but that is a topic for another time⦠Enjoy the video (if you can), and visit the TGPZ site for more Zelda information and great articles written by my fellow writers!
