Perform the Ultimate Smash Inspired by Breath of the Wild

As the remaining days of the world’s biggest games conference come to a close in Los Angeles, impressions were created that outlast the empty halls of E3. Nintendo captured the attention of all game fans when it finally revealed gameplay for the latest edition of their character laden family brawler, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Ultimate indeed, Sakuri’s latest iteration bundles together every single character that has appeared in previous titles into one set piece. Not only has it gotten the attention of Zelda and Nintendo fans, but the gaming community as a whole.

Speaking of Zelda fans, the newest versions of the franchise’s stable characters were shown to the public and (elf) boy … do they look gorgeous. In the opening footage of the Nintendo Treehouse segment we were treated to a closer glimpse of some of the characters in all their historic glory. Link is sporting his new Breath of the Wild attire, Ganondorf’s retro Nintendo 64 outfit is one for the Ocarina of Time fan, and Zelda goes 2.5D with A Link Between World’s inspired clothing.

As cool as this may be, the most striking feature was the new Breath of the Wild stage, the Great Plateau Tower. Taken straight from the first part of Link’s latest adventure, the tower overlooks the rest of the gorgeous setting that is the game’s version of Hyrule field. Get distracted by the scenery though, you’ll soon find their perils of the edge of the scene and the subsequent loss of a stock token to your opponent! Attention to detail is everything to Sakuri and his team and this level is no different. Striking the canopy of the tower several times will cause it to collapse. But, in true Sheikah style, the power of the ancients will flow in all their blue coloured glory and repair the tower, restoring it to its former glory. Awesome!

All this and I haven’t even mentioned that we also have Wind Waker and Young Link returning! If you cant tell, I’m stoked!

So Zelda fans, are you excited? If you’ve taken time off playing Fortnite on your Switch, let us know in the comments below.
