Tingle is one of the most divisive characters in the entire Legend of Zelda series. Many fans love him, many fans hate him, and there doesn’t appear to be much middle ground. But there’s no denying that Tingle has endured the series’ many twists and turns, which led YouTuber Dr.Wily to ask a very interesting question: what if Tingle is actually a deity?

Either as an Easter egg or an actual character, Tingle appears in many Zelda games, spanning all the timelines and many different worlds. Dr.Wily explores these various appearances and how they are possible. He also examines The Legend of the Fairy, found in the Tower of the Gods in Wind Waker. This legend poses one possible origin for Tingle, but it has some contradictions and oddities that Dr.Wily discusses.

Dr.Wily concludes that it’s only possible for Tingle to appear across so many games, times, and worlds if he is more powerful than we think. He hypothesizes that perhaps Tingle is a deity, or that he achieved great power while trying to become a fairy. At this point, it seems like the most plausible explanation for Tingle’s recurring appearances.

What do you think? Do you think Tingle is a god or fairy, or is there a different explanation for his powers? Check out Dr.Wily’s video below or click here to watch it on YouTube and let us know your own theory!
